AM INTERNATIONAL
This 1,800 sf space for Ackerman McQueen International, a U.S.-based advertising firm located off Canaby Street in London, had the following requirements; minimum build out, short term lease and flexibility.
“The illusion and abstraction of London fog carries the project.“
With the concept of flexibility and the given location, the dual qualities of transparency and translucence were explored. Using Lumisty film and sliding glass walls, both privacy and movement results. Boundaries and glass become transparent (or “open”) when viewed from an angle, but when viewed perpendicular to the glass, the space becomes “closed,” creating a sense of privacy and an effect that is functional, beautiful, and enigmatic.
The Ackerman McQueen London office was recognized by receiving an AIA 2005 Interiors Honors Award. AM International also received a Merit Award in Interior Architecture in a design competition sponsored by the Central States Region of the American Institute of Architects.
The project was completed while employed at Elliott + Associates Architects in Oklahoma City. All photos © Robert Shimer/Hedrich Blessing
